Iware Co., Ltd. (株式会社 アイウエア) is currently looking for an experienced, skilled, and certified English Home Stand-by /Substitute Teacher (Tokyo) We are urgently looking for qualified individuals to work in a flexible part-time position as a home stand-by substitute teacher on Mondays ~ Fridays, as your schedule allows. As this is a desk warming position, you will standby at home as an on-call substitute teacher in case one of the regular teachers will need to be absent. You will be paid on days you are on-call, regardless of whether you are contacted to substitute that day. Please look at the details below. *Please keep in mind that there's a possibility that you will be assigned to cover the lessons for consecutive days in light of the original teacher's situation like becoming a covid-19 and flu. ========================================================== [Term] April 2026- March 2027 (*Renewable) [Contract type] Outsourcing contract [Payment] Standby at home: 3,500 JPY / day *If you have a substitution, the payment will be 7,000 JPY / day+transportation fee [Days] Any Mondays ~Fridays depending on your preference *Please include your available days in your cover letter. [Time] 6:00am-9:00am (early morning standby), 9:00am-3:30pm (staying at home in case of emergency) *Includes 1-hour lunch break *If we need your help with a substitution, we will make a phone call on the day before or from around 6:00 am to 8:30 am, so please be on standby on your working days. Even if you do not receive any emergency phone call from us by 9 am, please be on standby for emergencies and work from home until 3:30 pm. [School]Most of the schools where you will work as a substitute are located in Tokyo (including West Tokyo), but we also have some schools in Narashino City in Chiba and Yokohama in Kanagawa. Most of them are junior high and high schools, but there is also one elementary school. [Work Contents from home] During standby at your home, you may be asked to: Correct some English emails, documents, make lesson plans, translate documents (if possible)... If we do not have any specific requests for standby work, you shall have plenty of time at home to do any or all of the followings: ・Preparation for your classes ・Studying Japanese through the internet ・Studying TESOL through the internet (There has been a teacher who has already gotten their certificate!) ・Updating your SNS ・Chat with your friends *Note* It is not allowed to make appointments during the standby hours (e.g. hospital appointments, hair salon reservations, or other scheduled jobs) as you may be asked to substitute at the last minute. You must go provide substitution work for our client schools for whatever reason unless you are serious sickness, injury, and influenza, etc. [Work Contents for substitution] If we need you to substitute, you will be sent to one of our various client schools around the Kanto area (Kanagawa, Chiba, Tokyo) to fill in for one of the regular English teachers. You will go to the school together with an Iware staff member to help you get settled at the school, and teach lessons based on the current curriculum in replacement of the regular teacher. As each school is different, the schedule, environment, role and responsibilities may vary, so you will need to be flexible. *You have to work based on our client school's schedule. Please be aware that there is a possibility that you will be required to work until 5:00 pm at the latest depending on the client school. *If your total working hours for the day exceed 5 hours and 30 minutes (excluding the 1-hour lunch break), you can decrease your hours for the next standby day accordingly. ========================================================== Due to the nature of this position, you will need to inform us at least 2 weeks in advance if for any reason you are unable to work during your standby days. You will be unable to receive payment for that day.
